Answer:

The Play a Sound behavior provides a way to use digital recordings or other sounds that are stored in the Sound Browser menu as part of your communication pages and popups. If the Play a Sound behavior is assigned to a button, your Series 5 device will play a selected sound file when the button is selected. These files include MP3s (music) and wav files. Sample sounds have been loaded on the unit in the Sounds folder. In order to play other sounds/files from a button, you need to first copy those files to a folder on the device (i.e. using a USB storage device or external CD drive, downloading from the Internet on an Open Vmax/V device, etc).

To add the Play a Sound behavior to a button, follow these steps:

1. Select the green Modify button in the title bar.

2. Select the button that you want to modify.

3. Select the Behaviors button.

4. Select the drop-down menu in the Behaviors drop-down list to change the category from Favorites to Multimedia (you will need to use the scroll bar to find it in the list).

5. In the left viewport, select the Play a Sound behavior.

6. Select the Add button.

7. Select the sound you want the button to play from the list in the Play Sound menu.

o If the desired sound is not shown in the viewport, select the Change Folder button to browse to a different folder. When you select Change Folder, select the check box at the bottom so Show All Directories is selected with an X.

o If you want to find the sounds that are preloaded on an Open device, select the + to expand the C drive on an Open device then the + to expand the 5100 folder and the + to expand the Shared folder. Select the + next to Sounds then select one of the subfolders and OK.

o On a Closed device, you will not see the C drive so select the + to expand the Shared folder. Select the + next to Sounds then select one of the subfolders and OK. You can highlight a sound and select Play Sound to hear that sound.

o To create a new sound to play from this button, select New. Type a name for the new sound file (wav) that you will record into the system then OK to exit the keyboard. Select OK to begin the new recording then OK again to stop the recording. If needed, use the onscreen buttons to Playback or Record Again. Note: When you select Record Again, the new recording begins immediately. Once the new recording has been completed, select OK.

8. Once the desired sound is located, select it so it's highlighted in the list.

9. Select the OK button to close the Play Sound menu. The Play a Sound behavior and the name of the sound you selected will now be displayed in the Steps viewport.

10. Select the OK button to close the Behavior Editor menu.

11. Customize any of the button's other attributes (add a label, symbol or change the color, for example).

12. Select the OK button to close the Modify Button menu.

The selected sound will now be played whenever the button is selected.
